An Urgent Call To Action
Here's how to advocate for public lands and clean energy, right now.
I’ll keep this week’s post short and to the point: we’re in a critical moment on public lands and clean energy in the US.
Here’s the situation (from Protect Our Winters):
Right now, lawmakers in D.C. are negotiating the federal budget through a backdoor process that allows extreme proposals to pass with fewer votes. Some of the biggest threats on the table include:
Slashing clean energy tax credits that are lowering costs, creating jobs, and speeding up our transition away from fossil fuels.
Selling off public lands—the places we recreate and that power a $1.2T outdoor economy—to offset unrelated costs.

Clearly, we need the full force of the outdoor community applied towards this moment.
I appreciate that POW, through their unwavering dedication to advocacy campaigns, has made it as easy as possible to contact our reps. So let’s do it.
Head over here for more. There are emailing options and calling options. I am slightly phone shy (have I told anyone this? yes, even though I’ve been known to talk on the phone for hours, as many of you reading already know) so I alternate between the two methods depending on how I’m feeling.
(Here’s another link through Evergreen Action with a different, more energy-focused script for calling on this topic.)
Also, you can share this post from POW to spread the word, if you feel so inclined.
Every call and email helps, especially as we work to grapple with what this administration means for outdoor spaces and climate policy.
…and that’s it! I was telling the truth! Keeping it simple this week after last week’s novel. Thanks for reading!
